ABOUT US

St. James Episcopal Church, a parish in southeast Springfield, is a vibrant community of Jesus-followers with a strong emphasis on serving our community. Through our sponsorship of local students, partnerships with community service organizations, and numerous volunteer ministries, we hope to share the Good News of God in Christ – the Redeemer of all that is broken, hurting, or seemingly hopeless – with our neighbors.

In the life of our parish, we have Christian formation opportunities for all ages, worship rooted in the ancient tradition of the Church, and ministries of prayer for and with one another.

CATHOLIC AND REFORMED

The Anglican via media, or "middle way"

Our Episcopal heritage falls within the Anglican tradition, the third largest group of Christians globally, behind Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Christians. Our tradition is both catholic (meaning the church universal) and reformed (meaning we have diverged in our unique way over the last five centuries). At St. James, you will find catholic faith in the traditional ordering of the liturgy and strong sacramental theology, while also finding a reformed sensibility toward inclusion and cooperation.
