Surprises of life - Live Today!
Life is full of surprises and they are sometimes totally expected and at other times, beyond your control and unnerving. In the midst of such situations, we all need to fall to the flow, which is called falling into the flow God is setting you on.
I am fully aware of the totally unexpected journey ahead of us and for all of us here at St. James. St. James didn't expect their newly called Rector to serve for four and half years, and the rector didn't think that he will have to move to a totally different part of the country to respond to God's call. There is a lot of grief, sadness, excitement and for some a little anger. This is what is real though. We all face these kinds of situations daily. Sometimes we deal with it well and at other times we fall prey to negative emotions and fears.
So, today I invite you to reflect deeper on the reality that life, which is uncertain every single day. We have to live the best life we can every day. That's why none of us have the luxury of postponing living our lives fully and joyfully today. Nobody has the freedom to put off loving another human being the next day. Because as the Lord says the next day brings its own set of woes and worries, joys and excitements.
Dear Saint, I invite you to live fully today. Love joyfully today. Do not give in to fears, sadness, and anger today. True spirituality calls for perfect joy, as St. Francis of Assisi would say. What is perfect joy? The joy that comes from knowing we are not alone in our sorrow. We are not isolated in our fears. We rejoice because the next in our lives are fully and completely in the hands of God, and that goes for all of us. Francis lived happily in poverty, sickness, or hunger!
