Update!
I am sure you are keeping up with the CDC guidelines for masks even for those who are vaccinated. We have our opinions about this, I know. However, I have learned in the last three days here in Springfield that the cases are increasing and affecting more and more people. So I encourage everyone, please, to take the necessary precautions while you shop, or if you are in crowded areas to wear masks even if you are vaccinated. I know I keep harping on this. Only to make sure we do not take it lightly. I am proud of the fact that we at St. James are very good at wearing masks while we are together. I can not thank you enough for it. This too shall pass. We will have to hold on to our hope to do the right thing. Thank you most sincerely!

Outdoor Church Service @ 9 am
Outdoor Service
Sundays 9 am / August 1
Please join us for a service of the Holy Eucharist on Sundays at 9 am in our prayer garden. We will also have our usual service of the Holy Eucharist at 10:30 am with music, in the Sanctuary. If you are unable to participate in either of them, please join us for prayer online at 10:30 am every Sunday and if you can, please join our Compline service at 9 pm every day. It's a wonderful community that prays together. We pray for each other and for the families present at these prayers. Please put your needs, thoughts, and prayer requests by being present at these times.

Funny Quarrels!
Everyone has heard people quarreling. Sometimes it sounds funny and sometimes it sounds merely unpleasant, but however it sounds, I believe we can learn something very important from listening to the kind of things they say. C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.
Last week in my reflection I talked about how the words are made of, namely, "air." I want to continue that conversation by bringing in what C.S. Lewis says here. Because our words are made of air, and they change the character and meaning depending on where the wind is blowing or who is talking.
The best solution to the conflicted American society today is listening. Stop talking. I am sure some have already tuned me out right now because I said an emphatic stop! But please, read! Listening is the key to hearing the voice of God. When our hearts are not preparing a response, our hearts are calmer. When we don't have to respond to everything the other says, it is so much more relaxing. When we are not assigning intents to others' words, then we will not be attached to their unintended meanings. When our ego is not attached to our need for control, then our words will have soothing effects. There is not a thing we can solve just with words, only listening!!
None of us are good at it, I included. I regret many times how I react to what the other is saying and plan my responses to an unintended meaning I have assumed. In every email, I sent out I say out loud, "silence is music." I pray I understand what that means. I pray that I know what I am talking about. And since I don't know many times what I am talking about, how should I even expect someone else to understand what I am talking about. God of mercy. Help me to be quiet! Please LISTEN!

Activities/Crafts: Make bread with me!
Talk About It:
  1. What does Jesus mean when he says he is the bread of life?
  2. What does it mean when to believe in Jesus as the bread of life?
  3. Why does Jesus always talk in parables and why use bread as one of those parables?
A Note From Ms. Kimby: This week we will make bread together! This bread recipe is one I have used for years and it's so easy to make! Follow along in the video below!
I would love to hear from you! Share pictures, video, thoughts or questions with on our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/StJamesSpringfield
