Journey with us through

Holy WeeK

April 13 - 20, 2025

This most sacred time of the year brings with it the potential to transform our lives and renew our faith as we journey together from Palm Sunday to the Resurrection.

Will you join us on this journey?

Why Holy Week?

From the earliest days, Christ's Church has called those who would follow Jesus to dedicate this holy week to the remembrance of his passion, death, and resurrection. We will continue that ancient custom with special liturgies for each of the days of Holy Week, and will culminate the celebration with the single-most important liturgy of the entire year: The Great Vigil of Easter. We'll pull out all of the stops for the Church's most sacred liturgy, and it will mean all the more to us having been gathered each day of the week leading up to it. Plus, we even get to baptize some new souls into resurrection life that night!

If you've not visited St. James before, Holy Week would be an excellent time to visit. Our open and inclusive congregation welcomes everyone of every orientation, status, ethnicity, ability, identity, and background to fully share in the life, worship, and prayers of our church.

On the night before he died, Jesus gave a New Commandment: to love one another.
He also gave us food for the journey in Holy Communion.

Following Mass, a Night Watch will be kept with the Blessed Sacrament at the altar of repose in the chapel overnight, remembering Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night before he died, asking his disciples to stay awake with him for an hour. Sign up with the church office for an overnight hour to keep watch with Christ.

9:00pm | Compline (online only)

In Good Friday's somber liturgy recalling Christ's crucifixion for the sings of the whole world, time seems to stand still as we pray at the foot of the cross.

Holy Saturday

April 19, 2025

10:00am | Holy Saturday Liturgy (chapel)

This is the strangest day of the Christian year. Liturgically, Christ is in the grave; practically, Christ’s sacramental presence is not found in the church. Yet, the Church calls us to embrace the peculiarity, the depth of desperation known only while the One we call God Incarnate is not found among the living. As we affirm in the Apostles’ Creed, Christ “was crucified, dead, and buried,” during which, “he descended to the dead.” Even in death, going to the place said to be absent of God, Christ continues his ministry of salvation for the whole world – even those who have died. We gather today to pray while we await Christ’s resurrection, trusting God’s work even in death. We will hear one of the Church’s most ancient, and most chilling, homilies.

Then... the celebration we've all been journeying toward...

easter eve

April 19, 2025

8:00pm | The Great Vigil of Easter (church, live-streamed)

The Great Vigil, the focal point of the Christian year since the early church, declares the story of salvation and celebrates Christ's resurrection with the baptizing of new Christians into Christ's Body. This is "the night of nights" and is the most extravagant service of all. You won't want to miss it.

easter Day

April 20, 2025

6:00am | Sunrise Service (church)

At sunrise, we gather to celebrate the discovery of an empty tomb as the sun rose on that first Easter morning.

10:30am | Easter Sunday Service (church, live-streamed)

With all the pomp and circumstance we can muster, our Holy Week journey culminates with a celebration of Christ's resurrection that sends us out to continue our journeys of faith.

Followed by an Easter egg hunt!
